Staff members at the Royalton Hotel are engaged in discussions with their union representative following a morning of intense protest.
Several dozen employees gathered on the hotel’s grounds to protest what they described as management’s blatant disregard for their urgent pleas for timely wage payments and improved working conditions
Chester Hughes from the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union leads these discussions and actively addresses the staff’s grievances.
It is important to note that the employees did not obtain prior authorization from their union to pursue industrial action; however, during an interview with Antigua.news, several staff members expressed their frustrations, stating they have grown increasingly disillusioned and exhausted by their circumstances.
this government promisses jobs and more jobs with the upcoming “luxury” hotels, but he never said that they would be remunarated jobs. Lets keep building hotels!!

Some of these hotels owners are wicked to their employees—Poor flat pay and poor service charges. Hotels work are back breaking work. Leaving your home as early as 4:30 in the morning to get to the West Bus Terminal to catch the 5:30 am hotels bus isn’t easy, especially leaving your young children at home. Hotels full to the capacity and a 1% service charge takes your weekly salary/wages a little under $600 and barely over $600.
Royalton told their staff that they were not getting paid extra for the half day holiday declared for prayer by the PM and they did not pay. Employees who worked during the holiday only received their basic salary. Additionally, Royalton short paying the staff their vacation pay. And serving their staff hogwash as food.
You all need to know the law anyone lives over a mile and have to work when bus stop running their entitle to be pick up and drop off at there yard if they can’t meet that agreement they should pay you travel allowance
