Since the grand inauguration of the Barbuda International Airport (BIA) on October 3rd, a remarkable total of 99 passenger flights have landed on its newly established runway.
In October alone, an impressive 45 flights arrived, followed by an additional 54 in November, signaling a strong uptake in air travel to this scenic destination.
This state-of-the-art airport features a generously long 6,100-foot runway designed to accommodate a variety of aircraft, ranging from the LIAT ERJ 145 and the ATR 46 to the ERJ 175 configured for 76 passengers, as well as the slightly larger Embraer E-170.
The opening of the BIA marked a significant milestone, as Barbuda has become the only island in the Caribbean to unveil a new international airport in the past decade, making it the smallest island in the region to provide such an invaluable transportation facility.
The establishment of the BIA is expected to usher in a wealth of new job opportunities, enhancing the local economy.
Roles such as immigration and customs officers, airport operators, and various airport staff are projected to increase dramatically.
Since the airport’s inauguration, staffing levels have nearly doubled, encompassing more Aviation Security Officers, additional airport operation officers, immigration and customs personnel, and custodial staff, all crucial to ensuring a smooth and secure travel experience for visitors and residents alike.
This article is window dressing.. First off when did Barbuda get a state of the art international airport?? Or maybe this is a different airport to the one I have seen recently. Then you are telling me about 99 international flights in two months?. Are all these commercial flights with major aircraft carriers like BA, Virgin etc , or are they those small private jets?… one more question where are these flights originating from???
Stone is always so negative. Barbuda has an international airport and you know it. But you people are so hell bent on bringing down your country that you can’t see anything good. I am sorry for people like you. Give credit where credit us due. Ugly loves ugly. In sure your ugly inside out. I can’t stand the nonesence
But I am commenting based on what I saw I see a new runway I see a shed there is no tower, no emergency vehicles no arrival or departure lounge how can you call it international when you cannot compare it to the international airports of the world?? I beg to differ
Awesome to hear this for barbuda. however why weren’t any of these flights showed on the news. and as stone said, were any of these flights includes AA or BA or even virgin? Caribbean Airlines even? Liat 20 as an also developing thing? its awesome that barbuda is sending some great development directly behind antigua. this says alot for the sister isle
