VIDEO: Barbuda MP Vows to Stand Up Against Gov’t as Long As it Takes

In a dramatic turn of events in Barbuda, tensions have escalated as residents stand resolutely against government plans to clear land designated for a controversial housing project.

Trevor Walker, the local MP, has taken a firm stance, declaring that Barbudans will not permit the government to proceed without proper consultation.

This morning, a group of passionate Barbudans joined by Walker, gathered on the site earmarked for the development, making it clear that they are prepared to block any attempts to advance the project.

The atmosphere grew tense as armed police confronted the demonstrators, showcasing the serious commitment both sides have towards their positions.

‘We are going to stand up as long as it takes to make sure that we don’t disenfranchise our people. So Gaston Browne our land is not for sale and nobody can take it away from us,” Walker yelled

The Government has nonetheless argued that the project is vital for tackling housing shortages and enhancing infrastructure on the island.

The proposed development is said to feature plans for more than 200 homes, a shopping center, and additional amenities.

As stated by the Government, these efforts are part of a larger plan to upgrade Barbuda’s infrastructure and address the increasing demands of its inhabitants.

Yo, this whole situation in Barbuda is wild! 😳 The locals are straight-up not having it with the government trying to clear land for that housing project. Trevor Walker’s definitely got the people’s back, telling them their land ain’t for sale! 💯 Can’t blame them for wanting a say in what’s happening in their own backyard.

And armed police? Sheesh, that’s next level! 🥴 It’s like things are heated on both sides. On one hand, the government’s talking about housing shortages and all that, but on the flip side, going against the whole communal land vibe? That’s a hard pass for the Barbudans!

It feels like a classic standoff, and I’m curious to see how it all plays out. The fight for their land is real, and if they gotta stand their ground, more power to ’em! Keep pushing for what’s right! 🙌🏾

If you have just over 2000 Barbudans living there in their own houses who are you doing putting in all that infrastructure for and for what purpose. It’s not fear to be outnumbered by people who are not natives of the land and exactly that’s the ABLP playbook for political power purposes. It happens on Antigua but it will backfire sooner than later.
