Today marks the beginning of training for the newly arrived firefighting trucks, an exciting development for the Fire Brigade. The fleet, which includes purpose-built vehicles, will significantly enhance the department’s firefighting capabilities.

This training program is set to involve 30 firefighters, who will engage in an extensive operational training session. Guido Vermier, an engineer from the supplier EAGLE International, is on the island this week to perform initial inspections and equipment checks ahead of the training.

The new fleet features various Volvo trucks alongside at least one Mercedes ladder truck, all tailored to the department’s specifications. Officials confirmed that these vehicles are equipped with specialized tools designed for local conditions and operational needs, highlighting the customization process.

Unlike conventional fire trucks, which come with standard equipment like hose lines and ladders, these new vehicles are outfitted with advanced rescue tools, including specialized hooks and priers, all requested by the department itself.

The trucks will be formally commissioned on March 7th, marking their official entry into active service. With this upgrade and training, the department aims to bolster firefighting effectiveness at various locations, including St John’s Fire Station.

The collaboration with EAGLE International has been pivotal in acquiring vehicles that perfectly align with the department’s operational goals.
