Hands off Cain
It is a sad day in the history of Antigua and Barbuda and we need to make an example of what is going on in this place. I put myself in the shoes of this family and I cannot imagine what they may be going through. An innocent child abducted and killed for no reason. This cannot go down in history as another matter for JAIL. Life for Life. Someone must face the death penalty. There is a time for everything under the sun. Now is the time to act. Once a confession is in there, then we put people to death. World Boss be a man. Now is the time to BE A MAN.
Very well said
This is devastating news. But in answer to your suggestion, Antigua and Barbuda has the death penalty on its statute books, but it hasn’t been enforced since 1991.
Here’s a more detailed explanation:
Legal Status:
The death penalty remains a legal option in Antigua and Barbuda, specifically for aggravated murder, but it is not mandatory.
De Facto Moratorium:
While the death penalty is legally available, there has been a de facto moratorium on executions since 1991, meaning no executions have taken place since then.
Death Row Empty:
In 2016, Antigua and Barbuda emptied its death row by resentencing the remaining prisoners to life sentences, which are reviewable for release.
Sentencing:
The High Court of Justice in Antigua and Barbuda applied a ruling that the death penalty should be imposed only in exceptionally severe cases, and in the judge’s discretion.
May God give strength to the parents at this tragic time.
Praise to Antigua.news for this update in the middle of the night, even if it is something none of us ever wanted to read.
This demands a national outrage. Our nation is broken at this time and we shall not sleep until we know the truth. We need answers. We need the truth. It cannot be business as usual.
First and foremost, I extend my deepest condolences to the family. This is an unimaginable tragedy that has sent shockwaves of grief, distress, and sorrow throughout the nation.
In the wake of this loss, we must ask: what happens next? Our country is facing profound challenges, yet we continue to voice our concerns in silence without taking the necessary steps to hold those in power accountable for the state of our nation.
The Antigua and Barbuda Police Force is in urgent need of a major overhaul. Here’s why:
1. Rising Unsolved Crimes – Numerous murders, missing persons cases, and robberies remain unresolved, leaving families without justice and the public without trust in law enforcement.
2. Inefficiency in Reporting and Response – Citizens frequently struggle to report crimes or receive timely, proper assistance when they need it most. This lack of responsiveness weakens public confidence and emboldens criminals.
3. Persistent Allegations of Corruption – For years, there have been widespread murmurs of deep-seated corruption, particularly regarding high-ranking individuals involved in offenses and subsequent cover-ups.
4. Abuse of Power – Reports of police misconduct and abuse of authority continue to surface, further eroding public trust in those who are supposed to serve and protect.
5. Lack of Accountability and Reform – Despite growing public complaints, those in power have done little to address these critical issues, and the people have not taken enough action to demand meaningful change.
With this latest tragedy, all eyes are on how the authorities will handle the case. Will Antiguans demand transparency and accountability? Will the public ensure that those responsible for law enforcement uphold their duties with honesty and integrity?
The government assured us that a task force was in place—what updates will we receive on its work? How will authorities prove that this is not just another empty promise?
This is a crucial moment for the nation. The people must decide whether they will continue to accept the status quo or finally demand the justice, reform, and accountability they deserve.
