Antigua and Barbuda is solidly positioned with a readiness level of 90% as the hurricane season commences.

The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) recently held a press conference to report on the extensive preparations underway and emphasize its commitment to safeguarding the nation against potential storms.

Despite facing certain challenges due to funding cuts, which have led to gaps in training and equipment, NODS remains resolute in its ability to respond effectively to disasters. Preparedness and Response Manager Anderson Tuitt highlighted the collaborative efforts of partner agencies, which are critical to the country’s overall readiness.

Tuitt emphasized the importance of preparedness as the hurricane season approaches, noting that feedback from recent meetings shows that partner agencies are largely ready for the challenges ahead.

Tuitt confidently rated the collective readiness of all agencies, placing it between an eight and a nine out of ten, underscoring the strong coordination and commitment to public safety.

With predictions of 21 named storms and nine hurricanes including five major systems, Antigua and Barbuda stands ready to face the impending challenges head-on.

The proactive measures and strategic partnerships established demonstrate the nation’s determination to protect its citizens and infrastructure in the face of any impending weather events.
