Bishop Charlesworth Browne has been reappointed as the chairman of the Prison Visiting Committee.
This announcement was made during a ceremony at Government House yesterday, where Browne and his fellow committee members were officially welcomed back
During the event, Sir Clare Roberts, the Governor General’s Deputy, emphasized the need for the committee to focus more on rehabilitation and reintegration initiatives.
He pointed out that one of the key goals of imprisonment is to support the rehabilitation and social reintegration of individuals.
Sir Clare encouraged the committee members to leverage their experience and insights to enhance their contributions moving forward, given their understanding of the unique challenges faced by both inmates and prison staff.
He reminded the members that their effectiveness lies in their ability to engage with empathy, while also exercising sound judgment and discretion.
Victoria Dyer has taken on the role of secretary, with Jacqueline Carter, Regina James, Ragji Burton, Margaret Rose, DeSilva Myers, and Phoebe Joseph joining her as committee members.
Great to see Bishop Browne continuing in this role. His leadership brings both compassion and conviction to a very sensitive area.
Rehabilitation and reintegration should always be the focus. Glad to hear Sir Clare emphasizing this important mission.
I believe the visiting committee with greater emphasis can do alot more than it’s doing but then again the prisoners will have to be more corporative
Great work Bishop. God is indeed good. We know you give up alot to serve. May it not go unrecognised.
Congratulations sir
What is he really doing for these people. No young people interested in being on the committee
