A 39-year-old Seatons resident has been remanded in custody on firearms charges after allegedly running from police during an early morning operation.

Jamall Prince appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel this morning on charges of unlawful possession of one 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol and unlawful possession of fifteen 9mm rounds of ammunition.

According to police reports, officers were conducting an operation in Seatons around 3:40am on Tuesday, June 17, when Prince allegedly ran from a property. Officers pursued and apprehended the suspect, during which they recovered the illegal weapon.

Prince was arrested and taken into custody before being formally charged with the firearms offenses.

During this morning’s court appearance, Prince’s attorney Wendel Alexander requested an adjournment. Magistrate Emanuel granted the request and remanded Prince in custody.

The matter has been scheduled to continue on Monday.
