“Desperate Lies”: Anthony Smith Blasts Lovell’s $6 Million Claim; Taking Legal Action

Anthony Smith and Harold Lovell

In response to Harold Lovell’s recent allegations on WTP Radio, MP for All Saints West Anthony Smith has issued a scathing denial, branding the former UPP leader’s claims as “baseless, malicious, and the product of a bitter man grasping for relevance.”

Lovell claimed that Smith personally told him that he was offered a hefty sum of $6 million to leave the UPP.

But Smith tells Antigua.news that Harold Lovell’s reckless comments are nothing more than a desperate attempt to drag my name into his political failures. He said not only did he have no such conversation with Lovell, but he also never received money from the ABLP government.

“I categorically deny ever receiving a cent—far less $6 million—from the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party or anyone connected to them. His story is a fabrication designed to mislead the public and to mask the embarrassment of his own failed leadership,” he said.

Smith went on to challenge Lovell directly: saying “If Mr. Lovell truly believes his own lies, I dare him to present evidence—bank statements, contracts, or anything tangible—to support this fantasy. Otherwise, he should be prepared to face the consequences of defamation in a court of law.”

Smith said he will be seeking legal redress against Lovell and any media house that has published Lovell’s remarks.

Closing his response, Smith accused Lovell of trying to poison the political climate with smear tactics:

“The people of Antigua and Barbuda deserve leaders who bring ideas and solutions, not gossip and slander. Mr. Lovell has once again shown why he was rejected at the polls—because he has nothing left to offer but spite.”

    • He is back again same play book lies and deception and that’s his political philosophy never afraid to use lies and deceptions remember when he said the opposition is a batsman paradise wicket and all batsmen should make 100 runs all you have to say in opposition is that things bad , people hungry , jobs scare , people suffering and the they would believe you once you keep saying it so his political philosophy is disinformation to the vulnerable and it would work sometimes so this 6 million dollars scandal on Anthony will hook into some of his supporters he was touted as Harold Lievel the the last election and he is back at it but Anthony has God” favor

  6. Thid is a serious allegation. I listened to the show. I dont know Lovell to throw people under the bus like that. If you say you love him like a brother and he confided in you, how is this now dor public consumption? You stopped loving him because he left the party?

  7. Anthony “Babyface Judas” Smith, a million Frenchman cannot be wrong.
Where did Shuggy Simon get the six million dollar figure?
He was not present when you were having conversations with Lovell.
Where did Richard Lewis get the six million dollars figure?
He was not present when you spoke with Lovell nor Shuggy.
What legal leg do you have to stand on to take action against Lovell when he is stating categorically that you told him?
Young man how do you expect Mr Lovell to produce banking documentation of your personal banking transactions?
    I thought you were smarter.
He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.
You have to read very cautiously.
Your letter refuting Gastons claim that you were having conversations with him long before you sold the people of All Saints West will prick very sharply into your side.
You are now face to face with your mentor and groomer.
A new dog cannot teach an old dog tricks.
The people of All Saints West are collecting their weapons.
    They are waiting for you.

Asot was an independent candidate and he didn’t recieve any ministry nor perks…..you trying to convince the people of Antigua that you are independent and didn’t recieve a thing from ABLP when the week after you was in their cabinet got a ministry wife got promotion at hospital you really think we can buy your words than no additional perks or cash was offered to you

Antiguans can only watch and see how deceptive you have being and the truth is clear you were bought out weather it’s 6 mill or less or more you were bought out

You should have held independent for a few weeks maybe even months then join the ABLP cabinet you literally started to get paid from them the day after you left UPP

    • So Anthony Smith quick to jump up and call Harold Lovell a liar, but the people of Antigua and Barbuda not fool-fool. When politicians switch sides overnight, it always raise eyebrows. Smith could deny till kingdom come, but the truth is people see the timing, people see the moves, and it don’t look good. Whether he take $6 million or not, the trust done mash up already. We tired of politicians who play like they for the people, then turn around and leave the very party and supporters who put them there. He could use all the big words he want, but action speaks louder than talk.

  12. Nobody takes a bold love like this and not get some form of compensation. Smith weighed his scale and realized it might be better to take the cash than remain in the UPP. But he said he never got money. We have no proof he recieved or didnt recieve. What we know is a maddddd bad a$$$$ move like that warrants payment or security. Question is what form did Smith recieve

  13. These kinds of allegations are serious, and the public deserves clarity.

At the same time, we must avoid rushing to judgment without evidence. Both Mr. Lovell and Mr. Smith have made strong statements, but what is most important is transparency and accountability in our political process. The people of Antigua and Barbuda want leaders they can trust, and the best way forward is for all sides to put the facts on the table and let truth, not speculation, guide the conversation

  15. Lovell telling the truth, and Anthony Smith know it. The man would never go on public radio and make up such a big story if he didn’t have confidence in what he saying. Smith could deny all he want, but his actions speak louder than his words. He turn his back on the UPP and the very people who vote for him—so why we must believe him now? Harold Lovell has nothing to gain by exposing this, but Smith have everything to lose. That alone should tell Antiguans who really talking straight.

  16. Let Smith run as an independent or labour man. He knows what he said to Lovell was oral, nothing in writing. The story has been around a while now, so why now he talking about suing and lawyers; because he has been backed into a corner and this is the ony way he can save face. Smith your a turncoat and disfrace. You know there will never be any proof of the alleged monies. You would be a bigger fool if there was such proof.
I challenge you to disclose all your income and interest since joining the labour party, including those of close family members.
    Bhoy go sit down.

  18. Even on the day Smith resigned from the UPP he was asked. He said no. Even when the Bique Charles lady broke the news, Smith said it was untrue. His colleagues asked him if it were true after they saw the news and he denied it. Then he sends his resignation that night. Who can trust Anthony Smith?

  19. Anthony Smith can cuss Lovell from now ‘til next year, but people na stupid. All ah sudden he jump ship, and now he want we believe is pure principle carry him over? Please. If na money, is what then—holy spirit tell you? Smith could bawl ‘I never get a cent’ till he lose voice, but the optics na pretty. Politicians always quick fe call man bitter when dem ketch inna heat, but the people know sellout when dem see it. If he really think Antiguans go swallow that story, then he underestimate how much sense we really have.”
