A spell of heavy showers and thunder rolled across Antigua on Wednesday, breaking a stretch of hot, dry weather and sending residents scrambling for cover.

The downpours, punctuated by rumbles of thunder and occasional lightning, led to slick roads and slower traffic across the capital. Drivers were urged to exercise caution as visibility dropped during the heaviest bursts of rain.

Though no serious flooding was reported, forecasters cautioned that low-lying areas could see temporary pooling if the unsettled conditions continue.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service noted that the island remains under the influence of a tropical wave, with additional showers possible in the coming days.

Despite the inconvenience, the rains provided some relief to parched landscapes following weeks of intense heat. Farmers in particular welcomed the cooler conditions and replenished soil moisture.

Weather officials will continue to monitor the system and advise residents to stay alert to further updates.
