Airports Closed Ahead of Tropical Storm Jerry

Both the VC Bird International Airport and the Barbuda International Airport have been closed as Antigua and Barbuda braces for the arrival of Tropical Storm Jerry.

The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA) announced that the closures took effect at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, following advice from the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services.

The Authority said the move was taken out of an abundance of caution to protect passengers, staff, and airport operations as the storm draws nearer. A further update will be issued once officials determine it is safe to reopen the aerodromes and resume normal flight schedules.

In the meantime, the public is being urged to heed all advisories from the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) and to take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety during the storm’s passage.

Airport officials assured that they will continue to monitor weather developments and will provide updates as new information becomes available.

  5. Good see that ABAA is thinking about safety first! Some places has enough “don’t care attitude” to allow flights to go in and out
