In a touching and emotional address, outgoing Chinese Ambassador H.E. Zhang Yanling said her departure from Antigua and Barbuda was “bittersweet,” as she reflected on the close bonds forged during her four-year posting.
Speaking before an audience that included the Prime Minister, senior Cabinet members, and members of the diplomatic corps, Ambassador Zhang expressed gratitude for the warm partnership and solidarity shared between both nations.
“At this bittersweet moment, what fills me most is how valuable we both regard the good relationship between our two countries and people,” she said. “We have always joined our efforts to stand on the right side of history.”
She reiterated China’s appreciation for Antigua and Barbuda’s steadfast commitment to the One China Principle, and in turn pledged Beijing’s continued support for the twin-island nation’s sovereignty, independence, and chosen path of development.
The evening’s programme was rich in cultural displays—a reflection of Zhang’s fondness for the arts. Steelpan virtuoso Khan Cordice performed, followed by a Chinese song rendition by a Sir Novelle Richards Academy teacher, and a traditional Antiguan dance by the Elite Dance Company.
Ambassador Zhang, visibly moved, thanked the performers and the government for their tributes. “Antigua and Barbuda will always have a special place in my heart,” she said.

I will indeed miss her. Hope her replacement is as effective as she is
Wishing Ambassador Zhang the best
