One Door Closes: Darren Matthew-Ward Bids Farewell to WTP Amid Political Tensions

Darren Matthew-Ward

Popular media personality Daren Matthew-Ward has officially announced his resignation from WTP Media Network, bringing an end to his time as host of The Sunday Forum and Antigua & Barbuda Tonight.

The radio station is owned by E.P Chet Greene, the Chairman of the ABLP and MP for St Paul.

Last week, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said he had serious concerns about what he called “Political Prostitutes” on WTP FM and those tearing down the government and country, issuing a strong message from his colleague Greene.

In a detailed resignation letter released last night, Matthew-Ward confirmed that his final broadcast on the WTP platform took place on Thursday, November 6, 2025. He explained that the decision to discontinue his programmes was mutually agreed upon, following discussions with Foreign Affairs Minister and ABLP Chairman, Hon. E.P. Chet Greene.

Matthew-Ward said that despite the best efforts of all parties, his presence at WTP “appeared to be an issue for some” within the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, which in turn made Minister Greene’s position as party chairman “increasingly difficult.”

“As Chairman of the ruling party, it is his responsibility to ensure harmony within its ranks,” Matthew-Ward noted. “As such, it was mutually agreed to discontinue The Sunday Forum and Antigua & Barbuda Tonight.”

He thanked Minister Greene for his open-mindedness and courage, acknowledging that Greene had long sought his involvement at WTP — even knowing that he was “not going to be a die-hard choir member” of the party.

“I appreciate his desire to be open-minded and desirous of raising the standard of the national discourse,” he wrote. “It took courage, and we know that fortune eventually and always favours the brave.”

Matthew-Ward expressed deep appreciation to the management, production team, and colleagues at WTP and Twin Island Media for their support, naming several individuals including Ryan (the GM), producer Daveile, CJ, DJ Virus, Kereo, Sly J, Governor Slim, Dave, and Mambo for their encouragement and professionalism.

“They treated me at times like I was some sort of celebrity — no exaggeration,” he said with gratitude.

He also thanked Greene personally for the opportunity to contribute to the national dialogue:

“It was a learning experience that allowed me to hone my talents and add to the national conversation in my own personal style and manner.”

To supporters disappointed by his departure, Matthew-Ward offered words of reassurance:

“A lady once said to me, one door closes — another opens, and life continues with hope and promise. Be assured of that.”

Matthew-Ward ended his statement by reaffirming his commitment to continue engaging with the public through other avenues.

“As always, the conversation will continue and I look forward to doing it with all of you,” he wrote, signing off with his trademark sincerity — “God bless Antigua & Barbuda.”
