Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, UPP candidate for St. Mary’s South

United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for St Mary’s South, Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, delivered a passionate address at Freedom Hall on Tuesday night, declaring confidence in another electoral victory while dismissing speculation about his candidacy.

Speaking to supporters, Simon reflected on his political journey, crediting constituents in St Mary’s South for transforming him from a political newcomer into a formidable contender.

“I came to you as a villager, you made me a leader… I came as a political novice, you turned me into a political beast,” Simon told the crowd.

He pointed to his rapid rise within the political arena, noting that he was able to defeat a long-standing incumbent within just three months during the last general election—an achievement he described as historic.

“Together, we created history… the only branch to win two elections in a single calendar year,” he said, drawing loud applause from supporters.

Simon made it clear that his ambitions—and those of the UPP—extend beyond past victories, emphasizing that the party is focused on securing another win in the upcoming general election.

“We are not done. We want more… we did it twice before, and we will do it again,” he declared.

Ending on a confident note, Simon reaffirmed his commitment to the constituency and the party’s dominance in the area.

“St Mary’s South will remain blue after this coming general election,” he stated.
