All elected Members of Parliament on the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) side are set to be officially sworn in this afternoon at the American University of Antigua (AUA), marking a key step in the formation of the new government following last week’s general election.
The ceremony is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and will formalize the party’s commanding return to office after securing 15 of the 17 seats in Parliament—one of the most decisive electoral victories in recent history.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has already signaled that the majority of his Cabinet ministers are expected to retain their portfolios, pointing to continuity in governance as his administration begins a new term. However, he has also hinted at “some additions and some changes,” fueling speculation about possible reshuffles and new appointments within the executive.
With 15 Cabinet positions to be filled, public anticipation is mounting. Residents across the country are closely watching to see who will be entrusted with key ministries, particularly in areas such as finance, tourism, health, education, and infrastructure—sectors central to the government’s development agenda.
Several senior figures are widely expected to remain in influential roles, given their prominence during the last term and the campaign. At the same time, attention is turning to whether newly elected or first-time MPs will be elevated to ministerial positions, signaling generational renewal within the Cabinet.
The swearing-in ceremony at AUA is expected to be attended by government officials, supporters, and invited guests, and will set the stage for the formal announcement of ministerial assignments.
For many Antiguans and Barbudans, today’s proceedings represent more than ceremony—they mark the beginning of a new political chapter, with expectations high for delivery, accountability, and results under a government now armed with a strong parliamentary mandate.
All eyes now turn to the Prime Minister as he unveils the team that will be tasked with executing his administration’s agenda over the next term.
