A man who had been fighting for his life at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre since late April has died, nearly two weeks after an incident reportedly connected to a political motorcade.
The deceased, a 33-year-old resident of Newfield, passed away early Monday morning after remaining on life support since April 26.
According to reports, the man sustained serious injuries after allegedly falling from a truck during an Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party motorcade. Sources say he was later found unconscious and bleeding from the eyes before being rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Hospital sources indicated that medical staff last observed signs of life around 4 a.m. However, during a follow-up check approximately half an hour later, the patient was reportedly found unresponsive. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The Coroner was subsequently informed and permission was reportedly granted for the removal of the body. Family members later requested that the deceased be transferred to a local funeral home.
An official cause of death has not yet been released, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.
