A Jamaican man is set to be deported on Thursday following his recapture after escaping from the custody of the Immigration Department.
Akido McDonald, a 26-year-old from St Ann’s, Jamaica, was apprehended on Saturday, two days after his escape.
During a court appearance on Monday in District B of the Magistrate’s Court, Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel imposed a fine of $1,500.00 on McDonald, which he was required to pay within 48 hours.
The court noted that McDonald had been denied entry into the country and ordered his remand at HM Prison until his scheduled flight back to Jamaica.
The court proceedings revealed that McDonald had arrived on a Caribbean Airlines flight the previous Thursday.
However, upon examination of his travel documents by border control officials, he was denied entry and subsequently detained at the Immigration Detention Centre.
He managed to escape custody before being recaptured in Swetes.
Are there no earlier flights?
