Minister of State in the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs Sen. the Hon. Michael Joseph and Sen. the Hon. Lamin Newton have urged members of the general public to become blood donors.
The two senators recently donated blood at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Sciences Complex (SLBMSC) viewing the process as satisfactory and speedy.
Senators Joseph and Newton have both described blood donation as a civic responsibility that can me integral in saving lives.
Blood donations are carried out at the lab on the second floor of the SLBMSC, between the hours of 9:00am and 6:00pm.
The donor must be age 19+ and should at least 110 lbs. At the time of donation, the person should not present with cold or flu symptoms and should not have donated blood within the past 50 to 60 days.
Upon arrival at the lab, the donor is required to fill out a form. Their blood pressure and temperature are then checked, after which test for blood type is conducted.
