AN 8.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Caribbean Sea Saturday evening, prompting a tsunami warning for the Mexican coastline.
The quake struck just before 6:30 p.m. local time, approximately 125 miles south-southwest of George Town in the Cayman Islands, at a depth of around 6 miles, as reported by the US Geological Survey.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a tsunami warning in response to this event. Countries at risk include Jamaica, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Nicaragua, Cuba, the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, the Bahamas, Belize, and Haiti.
Additionally, tsunami advisories have been issued for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, according to reports.
