Opposition members sound off on proposed Registration Fee increase

Members of the opposition party have been vocal in their objections to the government’s recent proposal to increase vehicle registration fees, highlighting their concerns about the potential detrimental impact on the cost of living for everyday citizens.

On Friday, the government unveiled its plan, revealing that all vehicle owners, with the exception of heavy-duty vehicle owners, will face higher licensing costs. According to officials, the additional funds collected from these fees will be allocated for the maintenance and improvement of the nation’s road infrastructure.

The Hon. Richard Lewis, Member of Parliament for St. John’s Rural West was quick to respond, firmly criticizing the government’s stance. He passionately urged the administration to rethink its decision in a social media post following the announcement.

And in a recent interview on Observer AM, UPP Senator Pearl Quinn-Williams expressed deep concern about the broader economic implications for the average citizen. She emphasized that the effects would extend well beyond the immediate increase in registration fees, potentially straining the finances of countless families across the region.

If that’s what it takes to get better roads what’s the problem?? Or do you prefer to use your money to repair your vehicle that the same roads damage on a daily basis, and at same time argue for ” better roads”. Make up your minds people, I am a driver too

No amount of money is good for a government that’s taking all the money. Everything is going up but we can’t get a proper pay. Smh
