All regulations and amendments are expected to be in place to waive work permit fees for CARICOM nationals and those of the Dominican Republic on May 01, this year, according to Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office Lionel Max Hurst
Hurst said at this morning’s Cabinet press briefing that the government remains true to a campaign promise to eliminate work permit fees for those two groups of people.
“As you know, there was one sitting of Parliament thus far and we anticipate that between now and the 1st of May, which is about six weeks, we’ll have an opportunity to return to parliament to adopt the necessary fee amendment to the legislation that will allow this to go through,’ Hurst said.
“Part of the reason why we have named May the 1st also is because there were those in the opposition who said that it was an empty promise…And so we have now provided the answer”, he said
Hurst could not provide monetary losses to the government through this initiative. He said however it is expected to be a great one.
