Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the Organization of American States, Sir Ronald, has formally offered to host the 55th OAS General Assembly in June 2025 on the country’s behalf.
“I have the great honor, on behalf of Prime Minister Gaston Brown and the government of Antigua and Barbuda, to extend an offer to host the 55th regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States in June 2025,” Sir Ron said while addressing the Permanent Council.
“We make this offer because Antigua and Barbuda deeply cherish the Organization of American States and the foundational principles outlined in its charter”.
In response to the invitation Chairman of the Permanent Council, Chet Namor stated,” Thank you kindly, Sir Ronald, for your presentation and especially for the video. I’m not certain that I will make the plenary, but I will certainly make the other features, the beach and the boats and the others.
“We extend our deepest appreciation to the government of Antigua and Barbuda for the historic offer with the confidence that our ministers in Asuncion will undoubtedly accept it.”
Sir Ronald is optimistic that Antigua and Barbuda could receive the green light.
He told state media, “As the Americans say, you have to wait for the fat lady to sing. But let me put it to you this way. I believe the fat lady is already prepared.
“And that last ball that has to be faced has already gone over the boundary. So, I feel confident that next week in Paraguay, we will get a full endorsement of all the member states.”
This would be the first time a small state among the OAS family is hosting the regular meeting of the General Assembly.
It would come a year after the country hosted the fourth conference on small island developing states, or SIDS4, for which Antigua and Barbuda received international commendation.
Good! That means our roads will be patched up. Our streets will get a cursory cleaning, and most importantly, WE WILL HAVE WATER FOR THE DURATION OF THE EVENT!!! It is such a shame! Conditions like these should be prevalent in an “Economic Powerhouse?🤷
