GENERAL NOTICE FROM THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT

Subject: Half Public Holiday in observance of the National Day of Prayer

The General Public is hereby advised that the proclamation of September 12, 2024 as a half public holiday in observance of the National Day of Prayer from 12 noon, affects all banks, shops, stores, and public offices. Entities which by nature of operation cannot close, are required to pay workers who are scheduled to work on the half public holiday, from 12:01 pm to 11:59 pm September 12, 2024, their regular wage, in addition to an hourly rate of 150% of their basic rate per hour worked.

Workers whose workday is shortened by virtue of the proclaimed half public holiday will not suffer any loss of pay once they work their next scheduled day after September 12, 2024.
Please be guided accordingly.

    Some people will still break the law and ask workers to stay on the job until 4pm. You will hear the stories after
