Minister Smith wants more youth participation in the Blue Economy

Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Anthony Smith Jnr., has emphasized the importance of involving young people in the blue economy

He made these remarks during the 23rd Eastern Caribbean Ministerial Meeting on Fisheries and Sustainable Use of Living Marine Resources in neighbourin islandn Dominica

He stressed the need for increased investment and access to finance to encourage youth participation in the fisheries sector.

Minister Smith also highlighted the economic opportunities associated with the Blue Economy and called for the development of the region’s capacity to take advantage of these opportunities.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the regional sargassum crisis, food security and livelihood in the Caribbean, and the upcoming 69th Meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC69).

The Antigua and Barbuda delegation included Ambassador Daven Joseph, IWC Commissioner; Gregory Bailey, Director of Agriculture; and Kurt M. Williams, Senior Foreign Service Officer.
