West Indies Women’s Cricket Team Announced for India Tour

Member of Parliament for St. Mary’s SouthCricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the national women’s team’s squad for an upcoming multi-format series against India in December 2024.

The tour will feature three T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals, with matches scheduled at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium.

Currently ranked sixth globally in both T20Is and ODIs, the West Indies Women will face India, who are ranked third, in a series that carries significant stakes for the ICC Women’s Championship.

Captain Hayley Matthews will lead a balanced squad that blends established players with emerging talent. The team arrives with momentum from their recent semifinal appearance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai, though they will notably be without senior player Stafanie Taylor, who is currently rehabilitating from an injury.

Head Coach Shane Deitz expressed optimism about the upcoming tour, emphasizing the team’s competitive potential. “We want to take the good momentum we gained at the T20 World Cup into this series,” Deitz stated. He highlighted the tour as an opportunity to demonstrate consistent high-level performance against a top international side.

The series also presents potential career-advancing opportunities for players, with Deitz noting the strategic benefit of performing in front of Indian Premier League (IPL) teams and potential franchise cricket scouts.

The tour begins with a 10-day acclimatization camp, followed by the first T20I on December 15, 2024. The T20 series will conclude on December 19, with the ODI segment running from December 22 to 27, 2024.
