Ministry of Health Reminds Public to Remain Vigilant During Carnival Season Amidst Ongoing COVID-19 Threat

27 May 2023 - 12:25

On May 5, 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the public health emergency for the COVID-19 virus. However, the threat of COVID-19 and its associated risks remains, and is very evident, as the virus has not been eliminated.

The Ministry of Health recognizes that we are now in the festive season leading to Carnival, and wishes to remind the public that they should continue to observe the protocols already established, being mindful that during the hosting of these fetes, there are usually large social gatherings where persons are in close contact with each other. We also wish to advise that if you are experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, that you should wear a mask especially when going out in public. This is for your own protection as well as the safety of the persons around you, including relatives and friends.

Persons experiencing moderate/severe respiratory symptoms that are persistent, we strongly recommend that you visit your nearest health center or care provider to be properly evaluated. Finally, we strongly advise that you continue to practice good hand washing and workplace hygiene, good cough and sneeze etiquette, and we also encourage you to wear a mask as much as possible in public for prevention of infection. Further, persons visiting the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center, health centers and other health institutions are required to wear a mask.

Stay safe always, and have a happy and enjoyable Carnival 2023.
