Jason Modeste

By Zaya Williams

A police officer who is currently on trial for murder is now before the court again on different unrelated charges.

Ironically, Jason Modeste, who was suspended from the force pending another matter, appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel today charged with obstruction of justice and battery on police.

The incident in question is said to have occurred on May 29 at a gentlemen’s club in Jolly Harbour.

Modeste appeared in court with his lawyer Wendel Robinson and was granted bail in the sum of $3000 with a $1000 cash component.

He had to provide two sureties and was told to report to a police station nearest to him three days a week.

His travel documents were already in the hands of the court since the defendant is on bail for murder.

Modeste and Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force soldiers Shakiel Thomas, Armal Warner and Aliyah Martin were charged with murder in June 2020 for allegedly strangling Bruce Greenaway who was found at Indian Creek on April 13,2020.

Modeste and his co-accused have been on trial in the High Court for the past few months.

As it relates to the new summary charges brough against him, the defendant will reappear in the All Saints Magistrates court on September 13 to possibly enter a plea.

  1. Are any of the officers conducting the search at the “gentleman’s club” in a completely irregular manner going to be also held accountable for their illegal actions that night??? Just curious.

    • I certainly will not heap burning coals upon his head as that bogus raid, while patrons were inside, was absolutely senseless and insensitive.
