Fines to be imposed for smoking weed in public

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

A man smokes a marijuana cigarette as a large group gathered near the New Jersey Statehouse to show their support for legalizing marijuana Saturday, March 21, 2015, in Trenton, N.J. The event drew a diverse crowd of roughly 200 people. Many said they wanted to show their support for legalizing or decriminalizing pot, while others said it should only be given to people with medical conditions that could be eased by the drug. Several people were openly smoking the drug during Saturday’s rally, but apparently none were arrested. (AP Photo/Mel Evans)

The Cabinet plans to modify the law regarding penalties for smoking cannabis in public.

Currently, the law mandates a warning for the first offense, a ticket for the second offense, and a fine for the third offense.

When Parliament reconvenes, the proposal is to impose a fine on individuals caught smoking cannabis in public.

The goal is to discourage this behavior, which signifies a lack of respect for the law and for the well-being of other citizens.

There are some police officers who smoke marijuana openly in public. Would these same officers will be given civilians tickets or arrest for smoking in the public? I am not a fan of smoking marijuana; however, if they want to smoke out their brains let them be—pour dunces I called them. Marijuana leaf is to make tea to drink and other medicines, not to be smoking. Even marijuana oil good for arthritis.

And drinking rum (alcohol)??? And smoking cigarettes???? To many, these personal pleasures when consumed in public are equally obnoxious! Ban all or none at all!

Agreed that smokers, such as myself can tone it down a bit..smoking in public is a personal choice and it is not harmful too passersby, I agree maybe you may not appreciate the aroma, but however I don’t appreciate y’all stinking attitude but we tolerate it….i don’t appreciate the multitude of coke heads &vagrants who natural scent have town smelling like a walking sewage but we tolerate them…..I don’t appreciate Antigua incompetent police force and administration that seems too only focus on matters that align with making their image more likable instead of solving ACTUAL PROBLEMS, but guess what we tolerate them….So please do me a favor before y’all come in the media speaking on unnecessary topics while the state of our country is absolute shit, jus tolerate the smokers a bit cause lord knows im not speaking for all of them but That lil spliff you see everywhere is the working man’s tolerance with this bullshit System!
