Sir Robin Yearwood, the longest-serving member of Parliament, celebrated his 80th birthday today with close friends and party supporters at Pleasure Cove on Dickenson Bay.

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin, and other members of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party attended the celebration.

Prime Minister Browne expressed his admiration for Sir Robin’s 48.5 years of unbroken service to his constituents and the people of Antigua & Barbuda, describing it as nothing short of astonishing.

He commended Sir Robin as a national icon who exemplifies a life of serving others and wished him good health, hoping that he lives to become a supercentenarian.

“Sir Robin is a national icon who stands tall above most who have served. Today, he has achieved yet another milestone: becoming an octogenarian. I take this opportunity to commend Sir Robin on this achievement and wish him many more years of good health, hoping that he lives to become a supercentenarian.  In fact, I am awaiting in eager anticipation for him to achieve his golden anniversary as a parliamentarian.   That will be a day of which I will be extremely glad,” Browne said to Antigua.news

Sir Robin entered Parliament in 1976 and has held various ministerial positions, including Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, and later took over the portfolios for Aviation, Public Information, and Public Utilities.

Happy Birthday 🎁🎈🎉 Mr Robin Yearwood. I thought this man was about 90 years old. I have known this man since I was in primary school with his daughter in the 1970s. Mr Robin daughter is older than Gaston Browne.
