You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

On October 3, the new international airport on Barbuda’s sister island is set to open, as announced by Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

To accommodate as many Antiguans as possible for the event, arrangements are being made to transport them to the sister isle.

Various transportation assets like LIAT 2020, Calvin Ayre Helicopters, and the ABDF Air Wing’s aircraft, Air Force One and Air Force Two, will be utilized for this purpose.

The airport, to be named the Arthur Nibs International Airport to honor former representative, is pending approval from the Cabinet.

Given the significant interest from individuals wanting to attend the opening, it is expected that the ferry service between the two islands will also be used to facilitate transportation to Barbuda for the event.

Additionally, the government is in negotiations to acquire a third aircraft for the ABDF Air Wing, which will be designated for executive charters to transport senior government officials and private sector representatives to regional meetings and engagements.
