VIDEO: The Alfa Nero Sets Sail

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

The Alfa Nero has finally left the shores of Antigua and Barbuda after being there for over two years.

The boat sailed away to new adventures moments ago.

Its new owner is a wealthy Turkish billionaire who paid $40 million dollars for the vessel, a significant difference from the $67 million it was initially auctioned for.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt initially won the bid to purchase the Alfa Nero but withdrew from the deal due to legal issues.

The Alfa Nero had been sitting idle in Falmouth Harbour for two years.

The vessel gained attention due to Andrey Guryev, a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin, being included on international sanctions lists following the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The Antiguan and Barbudan government seized the vessel and auctioned it.

However, following the auction of the Alfa Nero in 2023, the vessel has remained in the government’s possession due to legal cases brought to delay the process.

The legal matter is still hanging over the vessel.

I wish that the author of this article could spell the word ‘vessel’ correctly, not VESSLE.
