Samantha Marshall

Minister of State within the Ministry of Social Transformation Senator Samantha Marshall said her decision to leave the Senate is  personal.

Senator Marshall has been serving as Leader of Government business in the Senate for quite sometime.

In an Observer interview Marshall stated the decision was inline with personal changes she desires in her life at this point.

She is also hoping her departure could open opportunities for other young talented persons within the Antigua and Barbuda Labour (ABLP).

“There are some prospective new candidates and it will give them an opportunity to be profiled, and for persons to be more familiar with the competencies and capabilities of those candidates. I have been having discussions for some time now, so the Prime Minister is well aware,” Marshall said.

She intends to vacate the post by the end of November.

“If the Prime Minister is able to make his appointments before then, then I will stand down,” she said.

This means there will be two vacant seats in  the Senate.

The second seat is that of Deputy Senate  President Osbert Frederick who will be appointed Speaker of the House at the end of the current Parliamentary cycle.
