The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has pledged a generous sum of US$100,000 to aid Cuba, which is currently facing the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Oscar.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced this significant monetary support during an interview with State Media, confirming that the funds were approved just last week.
Parts of the Caribbean island nation have suffered immensely from Oscar’s powerful onslaught, which compounded the challenges already posed by a nationwide power outage.
In light of this crisis, Antiguans and Barbudans are now being encouraged to join the relief effort by contributing supplies that can make a difference in the lives of those affected.
Donations can be conveniently dropped off at the office of Dr. Phimore Benjamin, located at the busy intersection of All Saints Road and Sir Vivian Richards Street.
Cuba has long been a staunch ally of Antigua and Barbuda, providing essential support, particularly in the critical sectors of health and education.
Notably, a number of medical professionals from the twin-island state have received their training in Cuba, highlighting the deep ties between the two nations.
And what of those privileged ones, like Dr. Robbins (I forced myself to watch/listen to him during the national news recently)and his rich doctor pals doing to aid this impoverished country that, in reality, made them rich and famous in Antigua today. The best they can muster is to join with the derelict voices of a termite-ridden Opposition to oppose for opposing sake. Cuba’s, sadly, devastating condition is due primarily to two main factors: 1) Global warming which puts all SIDS ( Small Island Developing States) at risk of suffering a similar fate to that of Cuba today, and not too long ago, to St. Vincent, Grenada, Dominica, the French West Indies and even Barbuda.
2) A second major contributory factor to Cuba’s current demise is the ongoing criminal embargo placed on them by the US.
QUESTION: Which country, in this hemisphere,’at this present time, is doing it’s utmost to bring the plight of Cuba to the ears, not only of the Opposition chat rooms, nor of the Bajan and Vincentian Assemblies, not of the local, entitled Cuban-produced big shots, but to the ears of the world at large. It is THIS government who continues at every international forum to demand that the US cease and desist in deliberately retarding Cuba’s progress through its continued crippling embargo. It is this Government, under the capable and astute leadership of its current Prime Minister, the Hon. Gaston Browne who carries the fight against global warning and demanding remediation behalf of ALL SIDS.
Cuba is not an infant that requires its poorer neighbours to hold its hand and beg for basics!. Shame on you, “Doctor” Robbins and your Cuban-made, lazy do-nothing, entitled chatterboxes. Stop insulting the intelligence of the local public, most of whom, I suspect, are intellectually superior to you but were not LUCKY enough to snag a scholarship to study in Cuba. Talk sense or shut #@%×&^ up!
