Esther Charles

In an incident that has left the Hatton community baffled, Esther Charles, a long-time resident and member of the Hispanic and Antiguan-Barbuda communities, narrowly escaped a potential tragedy on Saturday morning.

The attack occurred around 5 a.m. as Charles was walking to the West Bus Station to catch the staff bus for her shift at St. Jame’s Club.

While navigating her usual route, Charles was confronted by a masked man who brandished a knife and ordered her, “Don’t move.”

In an interview with Antigua.news, she recounted the terrifying moment, expressing her fear:

“When he told me don’t move, I was frightened. I saw the knife in his hands. I thought, I am dead.”

Defying the intimidation, Charles did not succumb to fear. Instead, she began to retreat, proclaiming loudly, “You will not touch me in the name of Jesus.”

Remarkably, her faith seemed to diffuse the situation. The attacker eventually calmed down and replied softly, “It’s ok, go ahead.”

Charles firmly believes that it was her unwavering faith that saved her during the incident. “I know the name has power,” she stated, highlighting the strength she draws from her beliefs.
