Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Gaston Browne has announced that the government will start drawing down on a loan from local banks to expedite road repairs across the nation.

During a recent appearance on the Browne and Browne Show, the Prime Minister highlighted that the repairs will commence soon, with the road in Jennings New Extension leading to Hermitage being prioritized.

“That’s one of the roads that will be addressed in a matter of weeks. We are about to draw down on the loan, and I am sure that from the first installment, that road will be one of the first roads we address,” Browne stated.

This roadworks initiative is backed by a substantial EC $100 million loan secured by the government to facilitate urgent infrastructure improvements.

To ensure the sustainability of this project, the loan will be repaid through an increase in vehicle licensing fees, which will be allocated into a dedicated fund specifically set up for this purpose.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of involving local contractors in the implementation of these road projects, aiming to boost local employment and expertise in the construction sector.

As the government moves forward with this initiative, residents can expect to see significant improvements in road conditions, enhancing overall connectivity and accessibility across the country.
