Barnacle Point Reverse Osmosis Plant 50% Complete, Ffryes Beach Facility Operating at Full Capacity

Construction of the reverse osmosis plant at Barnacle Point is now 50% complete. APUA provided the cabinet with an update this week.
Additionally, the Ffryes Beach desalination facility is operating at full capacity, producing up to one million gallons of water per day to meet the growing demand across the nation.

Cabinet members were also updated on the China-Aid Antigua and Barbuda Pipe Rehabilitation Project, which benefits from a generous EC$1 million grant from the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

This significant initiative will involve extensive pipeline upgrades in several key areas, including the route from the Factory to the Buckley Booster, the Parham Booster to Cassada Gardens, the Moravian Church Liberta to Patterson Tank, and from Golden Grove Triangle to Grays Hill.

Additionally, further progress has been made on a number of critical infrastructure projects. The Valley Road Project is ongoing, with an expected completion date of July 18.

The Point Project is currently in progress, with anticipated completion within the next six weeks.

The Church Pond Project is nearly finished, with 95% of the work completed. Meanwhile, the Crabbs Plant Site is undergoing changes, as the existing steel frame structure is being removed to facilitate the construction of the new Crabbs Plant, previously known as the Bethesda Plant. Lastly, the Fort James Ultra Filtration Project has been fully completed.

The Cabinet emphasized the importance of APUA’s close coordination with the Ministry of Works for the repair and installation of water infrastructure, as well as the resurfacing of affected roads.

In response, APUA is developing a standards document that outlines best practices for pipe replacement and road reinstatement, which will be submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Works for approval.
