Police and Customs Seize Multiple Drug Shipments

Police and Customs officials have seized multiple drug shipments in a series of interdiction operations this week, resulting in several people being detained for questioning.

The largest seizure occurred Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2pm when police and the Customs Enforcement Unit conducted a joint operation at Deep Water Harbour. Officials discovered four brown cardboard boxes containing 11 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis weighing 5.06 pounds with an estimated street value of over $30,000.

A broker from English Harbour was detained along with the seized drugs and taken to Police Headquarters. Three additional individuals – one from Upper Gambles and two from Mount Pleasant – were also brought to headquarters to assist with the investigation.

Earlier that same day at around 9am, a similar joint operation at the General Post Office resulted in the seizure of two small boxes containing several vials of cannabinoid oils. The substances were discovered during inspection of a brown cardboard box and have been taken to Police Headquarters for further investigation.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, Customs Enforcement officers discovered an English Harbour Reserve 10-year-old rum bottle filled with alcohol and cannabis leaves while unpacking a container at Deep Water Harbour. The seized substance carries an estimated street value of $100.

All seized materials have been taken to Police Headquarters as investigations continue into the various drug interdiction cases.
