Active tropical wave threatens wet and stormy conditions — flash flood advisory possible

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service (ABMS) has issued a Special Weather Advisory as an active tropical wave moves across the region, carrying the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone.

According to the advisory, the system is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms from Sunday night into Monday morning, affecting Antigua and Barbuda, as well as the neighboring Leeward Islands.

Forecasters warn that a flash flood advisory may become necessary, especially for low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Rainfall totals are projected to range between 10 to 20 millimeters (0.4 to 0.8 inches), with isolated heavier amounts possible.

Satellite imagery shows increasing convection and organization within the wave, located southeast of the Leeward Islands.

Meteorologists say the system has a medium chance of development over the next few days as it moves west-northwestward into warmer waters and favorable atmospheric conditions.

If the system strengthens, it could become a tropical depression or tropical storm early next week, depending on environmental factors.

  3. Let’s be proactive, not reactive. Sandbags, emergency kits, and proper drainage checks we know the drill by now.

  4. I rather this sort of weather than the hurricanes and tropical storms. I’m hoping that the hurricane season continues on this note. Just rain here and there nothing serious
