Heavy Rainfall and Flash Flooding Possible This Weekend

28 August 2026 - 16:02

Residents across Antigua and Barbuda and the wider Leeward Islands are being advised to prepare for heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash flooding this weekend.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services said disturbed weather associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly is expected to produce heavy rainfall from Saturday night through Sunday night.

Rainfall accumulations of one to three inches are possible across the Leeward Islands and British Virgin Islands, with locally higher amounts potentially falling within a short period.

Low-lying communities, small creeks and areas with poor drainage are expected to be most vulnerable. Rapid flooding could also affect roadways, making travel dangerous in some locations.

Residents are encouraged to clear debris from drains and gutters, review their flash-flood safety plans and continue monitoring official weather forecasts.

Motorists should avoid attempting to drive through flooded roadways, as water may be deeper or moving more rapidly than it appears.

People living in flood-prone areas should also be prepared to move to higher ground if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.

The public is urged to remain weather-aware and follow further updates from the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services.
