Acting Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers

Acting Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers is expected to be the new Police Commissioner.

The confirmation came from Prime Minister Gaston Browne on Saturday during the Browne and Browne Show.

“I can say safely here that his Deputy who is Everton Jeffers will be confirmed as the Commissioner of Police. So, you will have a new Commissioner of Police in short order,” PM Browne revealed.

With this new appointment, PM Browne explained that a few of the younger officers will be elevated to higher ranks “who can take over the force in a few years”.

Jeffers was presiding in the role after the news broke last week by this media house that current Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney would be stepping down, having accepted the role as Deputy Director with the Regional Security System (RSS) in Barbados.

It will be the first time an Antiguan and Barbudan holds such a high-ranking position within the RSS.

Rodney, who is presently on leave, would have endorsed Deputy Commissioner Jeffers to be his successor.

Jeffers was enlisted in the Police Force on 16th December, 1982. On 27th February 2019 he was appointed to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration.

His previous postings include Special Patrol Group, Out Stations, Immigration Department, Narcotics Department, STRATCOM, Human Resource Department and Police Training School where he served as the Commandment.

Deputy Commissioner Jeffers attended several training courses to include Staff and Junior Command at the National Staff College in Jamaica, Commanders Leadership and Management at the Specialist Crime Academy in Trinidad, Eye Detect Lie Detection, Science and Practice of Polygraph Examination in Barbados, RSS Executive Development Program at UWI, Cave Hill Campus in Barbados among many others.

He is a qualified Polygraph and Eye Detect Lie Detection Examiner and has also completed the Advanced Management Training at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Rosewell, New Mexico.

Jeffers was recently honored in the King’s New Year Honors list with the King’s Police Medal (K.P.M.).

The medal recognized his distinguished service in law enforcement and his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of citizens. Jeffers’ decades-long commitment to public service has made him a pillar of the community and a respected figure within the police force.
