Former BVI Premier hopes for relaxed conditions ahead of trial

Andrew Fahie, the former British Virgin Islands Premier Andrew Fahie, has filed a motion before a US court asking to receive more flexible bond conditions ahead of his trial

Fahie is facing charges of drug smuggling and money laundering, along with his co-accused — former BVI Ports Authority Director Oleanvine Maynard and her son, Kadeem Maynard.

The Maynards are on remand, ahead of the expected July trial.

According to media reports, Fahie’s attorney, Theresa Van Vliet “petitioned the court to allow him to travel for dental appointments and increased visits to his lawyer” but the motion was not opposed by the prosecution.

Fahie according to reports from the BVI currently has “limited flexibility after a revised bail bond order only allowed him to travel for court appearances”.

Part of his bond conditions is that his lawyers were to visit his apartment for clients visits however his two college daughters are there

Van Vliet told the court that the size of the “former Premier’s residence makes confidential communication difficult, if not impossible, if either of his two daughters is at home”

She suggested that an office with the necessary resources is more suitable and confidential.
