The man injured at Ordnance Bay in English Harbour this morning was reportedly found with a knife in his hand and told police his injuries were self-inflicted.

The Emergency Medical Services also says he initially resisted their assistance when they arrived on the scene.

Police said they arrived to find him in the water with his throat slashed and a stab wound to the chest. His boat was also engulfed in flames.

The National Parks Authority has thanked Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue, the Fire Department and ABDF Coast Guard for their prompt response, which contained the blaze to the boat.

The Parks Authority says while the vessel was destroyed, there was no imminent threat to other vessels anchored at Ordnance Bay.

Parks Commissioner Ann Marie Martin has also expressed deep concern for the boat occupant and has wished him a speedy recovery.
