Residents who signed up for tomorrow’s gender-based violence awareness walk are being reminded that today is the final day to collect their t-shirts from the Directorate of Gender Affairs’ office on the corner of Nevis Street and Friendly Alley. The organisers of the 5k walk, dubbed Men & Women United 2025: Stop Gender Based Violence, say that since Monday, volunteers and office staff have been distributing t-shirts between 1:00 pm and 7:30 pm each day.
Member of the organising team, Kieron Murdoch, said, “The volunteers have been doing an amazing job in terms of distribution and working with the large groups, and the staff at the Directorate have been going above and beyond. Today is the final day before the walk, so we want to encourage people to come and collect. All the other logistics for Saturday are in place, and we are looking to send a powerful message as a community.”
As of Friday, March 7th at 7:00 am, 2150 people had registered for the walk. The March 8th walk has been organised to coincide with International Women’s Day 2025 and begins at 2:00 pm from the Botanical Gardens. The organiser, the Integrated Health Outreach Gender Based Violence Coalition (IHO-GBV), has said that the event aims to mobilise all of society to advocate against gender-based violence with a focus on women’s and girls’ safety and human rights. The IHO-GBV Coalition is an arm of the nonprofit Integrated Health Outreach (IHO). IHO has partnered with the Directorate of Gender Affairs (DoGA) on the project. The Men & Women United 2025: Stop Gender Based Violence Walk is a project supported by the Equality Fund and Global Affairs Canada.
Registration is free, and registrants get a free t-shirt while stocks last. Walk registration is still open, and anyone can register for the walk here: https://qrco.de/bfg85S. Registration will also be possible on the day of the walk, beginning at 12:00 PM. Any queries should be sent via WhatsApp message to 736-4446.
