Moon Gate Antigua has announced the appointment of Maurine Bowers as its new Executive Chef, a landmark achievement in her almost 30-year culinary journey.

Bowers, who has worked at several of Antigua’s top resorts, now steps into her first executive chef role, overseeing the resort’s kitchen operations and shaping the dining experience for guests. For her, the promotion is both a personal triumph and a proud moment as a young Antiguan woman leading at a new property.

“I am so happy and proud, this is a big position for me, not just because it’s my first Executive Chef title, but also as a young Antiguan woman at a new property. I am not afraid of challenges.” Bowers said.

While she is eager to deliver creative menus, Bowers said what excites her most is the opportunity to mentor and build her team. Over the years, she has contributed significantly to the development of young culinary talent, working with the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) and serving as a judge at regional culinary competitions.

She led Team Antigua & Barbuda at the 2024 Taste of the Caribbean in Miami and is slated to return as a judge at this year’s event in Barbados.

“I love judging,” Bowers said. “You get to showcase your experience and skills while helping mould younger chefs through critique. I like to mentor, encourage and see people succeed.”

At Moon Gate, she intends to continue that mission. “I’m looking forward to helping younger chefs in Antigua develop their skills, while creating a harmonious and comfortable working environment.” she added.

The resort has praised Bowers’ appointment as a milestone not only for Moon Gate but for the wider hospitality industry in Antigua and Barbuda.
