Education Minister Daryll Matthew has pledged to place students at the heart of the nation’s newest academic institution, the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies (ABCAS), during its official opening ceremony.

In his address, Minister Matthew emphasized that ABCAS will prioritize students first, promising guaranteed recognition of credits across the institution, the creation of clear pathways to graduation, and transparent communication throughout the academic journey.

He further committed to respecting and empowering staff through professional development, clearly defined job roles, and fair processes. “To the staff who have carried these institutions through the decades, your work has made ABCAS possible,” he declared.

Acknowledging the importance of legacy, the Minister pledged that the identities of the Antigua State College, ABICE, ABHTI, and ABIIT will be preserved as proud faculties under ABCAS, ensuring that each institution’s heritage is honored while their strengths are shared.

Matthew also assured that ABCAS will maintain the highest standards of quality and accreditation, noting that curriculum reviews and external exam moderation will remain central to its operations.

He extended recognition to students, industry partners, parents, and the wider public, stressing that their trust, curiosity, and collaboration will be key in shaping ABCAS into a permanent, practical, and powerful force in education.

Framing education as the driver of national growth, Matthew concluded:
“Economies advance when education accelerates.”
