Post-Mortem Completed as Investigation into Businessman George “Charlie” Barnes’ Murder Deepens

Authorities have confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been conducted on the body of slain businessman George “Charlie” Barnes, even as investigators continue their search for the person responsible for his shocking death.

According to reliable sources, senior registrar Dr. Petra Miller-Nanton performed the examination on September 29. However, police have not yet released the official findings, saying the results form part of an ongoing homicide investigation.

Barnes, a 74-year-old gas station owner, was shot and killed outside his home on Nugent Street, Ottos Newtown, around 10:20 p.m. on September 12. Reports indicate that he had just returned home when an unknown assailant approached and opened fire, hitting him in the chest before fleeing the scene.

The brazen killing of the respected businessman sent a wave of grief and outrage across Antigua and Barbuda, particularly among members of the business community, where Barnes was admired for his work ethic and generosity.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 800-TIPS (8477).

While investigators continue to follow several leads, the motive for the killing remains unclear. For now, the community waits hoping that justice will soon be served for a man remembered as both a pillar of business and a friend to many.
