Parliament to Tackle Major Legislative Reforms at Today’s Sitting

Several major Bills will come before the House of Representatives this morning as lawmakers prepare for a packed sitting focused on governance reform, fiscal accountability, and cybersecurity.

At the top of the agenda are the Tax Administration and Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to be presented by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Gaston Browne, and the Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to be tabled by Attorney General and Minister for Public Safety, Hon. Sir Steadroy Benjamin.

Also listed for debate are amendments to the Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information Act, the Disabilities and Equal Opportunities (Amendment) Bill, and the Eastern Caribbean Citizenship by Investment Regulatory Authority Agreement Bill.

Government officials have described today’s session as a key moment in the administration’s legislative modernization drive, designed to improve transparency, strengthen law enforcement capability, and align the country’s statutes with international standards.

Prime Minister Browne is expected to highlight how the tax reform Bill will make the revenue system more efficient and equitable, while Attorney General Benjamin will focus on the need to update digital investigation laws to meet modern realities.
