The excitement surrounding the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was on full display at the opening of Antigua Carnival on Saturday, as the National CHOGM Taskforce’s Media and Public Affairs Committee brought the international event directly to thousands of revelers lining the streets of St. John’s.
Blending the energy of Carnival with the anticipation of one of the Commonwealth’s most significant diplomatic gatherings, the committee transformed the Opening Parade into a vibrant platform for public engagement, raising awareness of Antigua and Barbuda’s role as host of CHOGM 2026.

Throughout the day’s festivities, committee members interacted with spectators and masqueraders, inviting them to share their excitement and expectations about the upcoming summit. These candid conversations and interviews were captured on camera, while CHOGM correspondent Gabrielle Hamlet conducted on-the-ground interviews highlighting the country’s growing momentum ahead of the historic event.
One of the day’s major attractions was a series of photo opportunities featuring the official CHOGM 2026 logo alongside some of Antigua and Barbuda’s leading cultural ambassadors. Among those participating were Queen of Carnival Zaine Frederick, Mr. Teenage Soleil Williams, Ms. Teenage Katherine Pimental, CHOGM logo designer Chaneil Imhoff, and Minister of Creative Industries Hon. Dwayne George.
Carnival patrons also received CHOGM-branded commemorative cups and bottled water, giving thousands of people a tangible reminder of the country’s preparations to welcome heads of government and delegates from across the Commonwealth later this year.

The Carnival activation followed the launch of the official 100-day countdown to CHOGM 2026 and forms part of a broader national public awareness campaign aimed at ensuring citizens are informed, engaged, and excited about the landmark event.
Organizers say taking CHOGM into one of the nation’s largest cultural celebrations reflects the government’s commitment to making the summit a truly national experience. By combining Carnival’s vibrant spirit with the CHOGM message, the initiative sought to strengthen national pride, encourage community participation, and showcase Antigua and Barbuda’s readiness to welcome the world in November.

Great display. Aint no disputing the amount of effort that goes into hosting this significant event
